Last Saturday Marked the 104th anniversary of the end of the first world war. On this day we find ourselves standing at the intersection of history and gratitude, taking a moment to honour the brave men and Women who sacrificed for the cause of peace.
This day is really important to some of our residents, with it being either themselves or close relatives who were involved with the war. So we dedicate our thoughts to those who served, remembering their courage, resilience and selflessness.
Over at Hilcrest, blessed with the blue skies and sunny weather, a handful of the residents and staff spent their two minutes saluting outside.
With the streets decorated across the UK, they serve as poignant reminders of the courage and resilience that our soldiers had and still have. From the trenches of World War I to the battlefields of more recent conflicts, we honour the stories that should never be forgotten.
On this significant day, we had the remembrance service playing in the homes along with a two minute silence at eleven O’clock. At the Gatehouse we even had our lovely friend Laura The Yorkshire Piper with us to play the bagpipes.
